Call for Art - Spirit of the Tree

About Spirit of the Tree

Spirit of the Tree is a woodworking and carving exhibition honoring trees as both essential environmental beings and generous providers that have sustained human life, culture, and creativity across generations.

Featuring carvings, free-standing poles, relief works, and functional or mixed media pieces where wood is the primary material, this exhibition highlights the transformation of wood—from living tree to crafted form. The works on view reflect the deep relationship between human hands and natural materials, celebrating traditions of carving and woodworking that carry knowledge, identity, and story forward.

Trees play a vital role in ecological balance—protecting waterways, supporting salmon habitats, and regulating climate—while also providing material for canoes, shelter, medicine, tools, ceremony, and storytelling. Spirit of the Tree invites visitors to reflect on this enduring relationship and the creativity rooted in respect for the natural world.
